The Rick Hirsch 4 is a saxophone-driven experience, interpreting rock and pop anthems through their unique filter of post-bop and modal jazz, drum-and-bass, and R&B.
They stimulate and surprise as they shed new light on classics by the likes of The Beatles, Van Morrison, Nirvana, Radiohead, and Eric Clapton.
This jazzy collective also performs the evocative and compelling originals of saxophonist Rick Hirsch, an award-winning composer in his own right. And though they’re making music without a net—their game plan, after all, is to expect the unexpected—everything they play is rooted in groove and melody.
Hirsch is joined by three of Pennsylvania’s leading creative musicians. Ithaca, NY-native Kevin Lowe plays is the color-and- groove specialist on drums and cymbals. Pittsburgh-bred Jeff Beck keeps it grounded on the electric bass. And, the homegrown Mac Himes keeps everything interesting on guitar and his assortment of pedals and doodads.
