SUNDAY SHOW IS CANCELED! We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to have Michael Tarbox in our house soon!
Chicken Tractor Econo will get this show started and the crowd warmed for blues artist Michael Tarbox!
Michael Tarbox is a smokey-voiced singer from Boston whose songs meld backwoods blues, gospel, and Appalachian sounds in exciting, unexpected combinations. His music has drawn raves from Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, The Washington Post and more. You may not have seen Tarbox play before, but if you’ve ever watched Sons of Anarchy, which uses a bunch of his songs, it’s very likely you’ve heard him.
Tarbox is playing lots of electric guitar these days, which is great news, because his barbed-wire sound is a thing of wild beauty. His songs, perched somewhere between the primitive and poetic, are on speaking terms with the guiding ghosts of American music – Pretty Polly, Black Jack Davey, Bessie Smith, John Hardy and Harry Smith’s whole crazy pantheon of rogues and brokenhearted lovers. Tarbox has a white-lightning style that won’t quit, and a juke-joint sound as soulful as the day is long. If you like your music raw and real, you don’t wanna miss this show.
All Things Considered: “Homemade rock ‘n’ roll with a dose of rattlesnake venom and gospel-drenched howling.”
Calgary Sun: “For our money Tarbox is the most evocative and distinctive blues-roots artist to come down the pike in ages.”
The Boston Globe: “Intoxicatingly original.”
Twangville: “At the heart of Tarbox’s music is his guitar, as raw as it is charismatic. It creates an electricity that courses through every song.”
